Linux World Expo

This week I attended the Linux World Expo in Boston, MA. The expo floor wasn't as big as the first Linux World Expo I attended. I got a copy of Kirix's Strata a database program that is the easiest to install. All you need to do is click the install icon and its ready to use. I also believe that I'm getting a copy of VMware's Workstation. Its a program that allows you to boot other operating systems (winxp) from inside linux or from windows if thats your thing. I saw this guy that looked like he had been up for three days and drank only coffee give a speach about Fedora and Redhat. It was quite entertaining. Whats really great about this Expo is that its free to get in and all the free crap they give you. And by free crap i mean linux paraphernalia.

1984 Chevrolet Cavalier

Yesterday I bought a Cavalier for my friend Mike. Actually it was bought for me by another friend of mine Nick for $2.00. Thanks Nick you really shouldn't have. Anyway its pretty old and didn't run too well, it studdered alot when at stop lights and when accelerating. I changed the spark plugs, distributer cap, and rotor and now it runs alot better. I'd like to remove the radio and replace it with a simple sterio amp in order to run a discman or laptop computer throught the existing speakers. I may also practice making carbon fiber item and replace some exterior parts with my learning experiments. Here are some pictures of the car as you can see it has rusting stripes instead of racing stripes. SWEET!

Meade StarFinder 8" Dobsonian

OK its been a month since this site went up and I am finaly putting up a real post so the three people that look at this site (including me) have something new to read. A few weeks ago I drove from my home in Connecticut to Gainsville Florida to pick up a 8" Meade Starfinder telescope that I had bought off of ebay. The telescope came with plossl 10mm and 25mm eyepieces, and a 2x-3x barlow. The first few times I went out to use the telescope i couldn't get it to focus and After I got that down I couldn't aim it correctly at anything I wanted to look at. Not to mention it was about 3 degrees out. After a few nights I was able to see some really amazing stuff though. In the two successful nights of using the telescope I was able to see Saturn and Titan in orbit around it, the Great Orion Nebula, and Comet Machholz (2004 Q2). I recieved a 12v fan with the telescope. The previous owner was going to modify the telescope to have the fan cool the primary mirror but I am apprehensive about cutting into the scope, and I don't think I have had any problems with the mirror being too hot (not that I would know what to look for if it was). On mod that I plan on doing is building asecond base for the telescope with motorized control. I also would like to purchase a eye piece camera so I can post pictures of the objects that I look at. Below is a picture of the scope.
